U.S. Embassy Offers $200K in Humanitarian Assistance to Congolese Returnees

The US Embassy has announced that it will make $200,000 worth of humanitarian assistance ($100,000 from the USAID Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance and $100,000 from USAID’s Food for Peace Program) available to returnees from Brazzaville now gathered in Maluku.  The funds will be transferred immediately to organizations currently involved in the humanitarian response, and will be used to furnish food and to improve sanitation conditions in the camp.  Some of the funding will also be used to assist in providing transportation to individuals and families whose homes are distant from Kinshasa.
