The U.S. Embassy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is deeply troubled by the expulsion on April 7 of noted researcher and current Center on International Cooperation Senior Fellow and Director of the Congo Research Group Jason Stearns.
Well-documented reports by serious research organizations contribute to a strong democracy by stimulating public discussion of important matters of national policy. The Congolese government’s decision to expel Mr. Stearns is regrettable and a disservice to the many readers inside and outside the country who have been informed by his research over the past 15 years.
