U.S. citizens should exercise caution in the wake of the July 22 shooting incident which took place in the vicinity of Camp Tshatshi (located near the American School of Kinshasa (TASOK) and the Ministry of Defense) in Ngaliema, Kinshasa. U.S. Embassy sources report that unknown assailants attacked a government facility in or around Camp Tshatshi and were repulsed by government forces. As of 16:30, the government appears to have control of the security situation and established an increased security presence. Military vehicles, security roadblocks and pedestrian restrictions are being reported for the area. Security officials at the U.S. Embassy, therefore, advise caution and encourage people to stay home this evening until the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) Government lifts travel restrictions in the area.
