The U.S. Embassy has received reports of possible demonstrations called for by the political opposition in Kinshasa, and other cities, on April 10. Unrest and disruption to transportation services may occur in parts of the city. While the U.S. Embassy will be open, U.S. government personnel will limit movements within Gombe. U.S. citizens are advised to exercise caution when moving around the city and limit non-essential trips.
Embassy Kinshasa reminds U.S. citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. Avoid areas where demonstrations are taking place and exercise caution when in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations. U.S. citizens should review the Travel Warning for the DRC and remain alert for potentially dangerous situations.
