Security Alert: U.S. Embassy Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) (10 February, 2024)

Location: Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

Event: The U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa alerts U.S. citizens of ongoing protests in front of the U.S. Embassy in Kinshasa located at 310 Avenue des Aviateurs.  The Embassy advises U.S. citizens to avoid the surrounding neighborhoods and instructed U.S. Embassy personnel to do the same.  Protests are also occurring on Boulevard 30 Juin and at other Western embassies in the city.

The protestors are starting fires and throwing rocks and plumes of smoke can be seen on 30 Juin and near U.S. Embassy facilities.  Expect an increased police presence and heavier traffic in Kinshasa.

  • S. citizens are reminded that demonstrations that may start peacefully have the potential to turn violent with little to no warning, and they are advised to avoid large gatherings, protests, and affected areas.
