THE WHITE HOUSE

WASHINGTON

June 23, 2022

His Excellence

Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo

President of the Democratic Republic of Congo

Kinshasa

Dear Mr. President:

The people of the United States join me in congratulating you and the citizens of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) as you celebrate your 62nd anniversary of independence.

On this occasion, let me reaffirm our commitment to the U.S.-DRC Privileged Partnership for Peace, Prosperity, and Preservation of the Environment that reflects our common values and shared interests in improving the lives of our citizens.  As you and I discussed in Glasgow at the COP26 Summit, preservation of the Congo Basin rainforest is vital for humanity.

The United States is committed to furthering our partnership to advance efforts to promote peace, security, prosperity, and human rights in the DRC and across the continent and to address the global COVID-19 pandemic and the climate crisis.

On behalf of the American people, I wish the DRC success in the year ahead.

Sincerely,

Joseph R. Biden Jr.
