THE WHITE HOUSE

WASHINGTON

The Honorable

Felix Tshisekedi

President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Kinshasa

Dear Mr. President:

The people of the United States join me in congratulating you and all citizens of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on June 30, the 61st anniversary of your country’s independence.

On this occasion, we reaffirm our commitment to the U.S.-DRC Privileged Partnership for Peace and Prosperity that reflects our common values and shared interests in improving the lives of our citizens.

We welcome your vision and the new government’s commitment to deliver on reforms reflecting the will and needs of the Congolese people.  The DRC’s reinstatement into the African Growth and Opportunity Act is a significant achievement that contributes to your efforts to create economic opportunities as we work together to increase trade and investment.

I congratulate you on your leadership as Chairperson of the African Union.  The United States is committed to partnering with you to advance efforts to combat the global challenges of COVID-19 and climate change, as well as promote peace, security, prosperity, and women’s empowerment across the continent.

On behalf of the American people, I wish the DRC success in the months and years ahead.

Sincerely,

Joseph R. Biden
