Embassy entrepreneurship mini fair showcases local businesses, builds networks

U.S. exchange program alumni and others gathered on December 22 for an entrepreneurship mini fair at the Muhammad Ali American Corner in Limete, Kinshasa. The fair—which aimed to showcase alumni businesses, build networks, and encourage others to launch businesses—included representatives from 20 local businesses who each presented to the 150-person audience their business model and strategy for giving back to the community. As an example of a business that started with humble roots yet achieved great success, participants were introduced to American cookie company Famous Amos. Through hard work and sound strategy, Wally Amos, the storied company’s founder, overcame the odds to turn his small business into one of the most successful cookie companies in the world.
