In celebration of Jazz Appreciation month, the US Embassy welcomed the Brent Birckhead Quartet to Kinshasa. The Quartet held a master class on April 25th at College Boboto, featuring a mix of music students from the national school of arts and other aspiring jazz musicians. They worked with the students on a number of musical techniques ,and discussed their goals and their inspiration behind playing jazz music. While in Kinshasa , the Brent Birckhead Quartet performed a free jazz concert at Boboto and entertained a crowd of over three hundred with a selection of their hits , and showcased the diversity of American jazz music. The performance engaged audiences in the DRC that do not regularly have access to American cultural performances or American artists.
